Understanding travel credit cards

How do travel credit cards work?

If you travel abroad with a normal credit card, you could be hit with charges of between 2-3% for each transaction. This charge is for the service of converting sterling into local currencies and it’s added on top of the exchange rate.

When you think about the number of purchases you could make when you're on holiday, the total cost of foreign transaction fees could really add up.

Why get a travel credit card?

The benefit of most travel cards is they don’t charge these foreign transaction fees. So you're free to enjoy your trip without the worry of returning to a large credit card bill.
