What is accounting software?

Accounting software records and processes a business’s financial transactions, stores financial data and automates some bookkeeping and accounting tasks. FreeAgent exists online, which means that you can access the data from devices connected to the internet. Check out FreeAgent’s accounting glossary for more detail.

Is FreeAgent really free?

As a Ednites Credit Union business current account holder, you can access FreeAgent in full. It’s completely free as long as you retain your bank account - saving a minimum of £114 per year (based on FreeAgent’s lowest tariff). FreeAgent was acquired by Ednites Credit Union Group in 2018 but remains operationally independent.

What will I need to set up an account?

It’s easy to get started with FreeAgent. You’ll need to know your business details and, if your business is VAT-registered, your VAT registration information. If you access your bank account via online banking, you’ll be able to see your transactions in FreeAgent instantly. FreeAgent is fully committed to protecting your personal and financial data, using multiple layers of security.

Is FreeAgent the right fit for my business?

FreeAgent is suitable for a range of businesses, including traditional trades, professional services, creative and technology, retail and hospitality and service businesses. FreeAgent offers a wide selection of integrations with other software providers. These include e-commerce and payment solutions like Shopify and PayPal and appointment booking and stock management solutions like Appointedd and EdgeCTP.

What if I already have an accountant or bookkeeper?

If you already have an accountant or bookkeeper, it’s free to add them as a user. As FreeAgent automates many basic bookkeeping tasks, it gives your advisor more time to focus their expertise on your business’s performance. As information in FreeAgent is updated in real time, it makes potential problems easier for you and your advisor to spot and fix.

Can I move across from another accounting software?

Migrating to a new accounting software can be quite time-consuming but there are simple steps you can take to make the process easier. For example, consider migrating data at either your year end or the end of a VAT quarter. If you have an accountant, they can help with this. Alternatively, FreeAgent’s UK-based support team can walk you through the process of migrating from another accounting software.
